Paint Base Portland Cement Finish Coats

A gray based portland cement finish used to provide stucco textures for projects specified for application of paint or elastomeric finishes.

Sand Blends:
Coarse: Used for a heavy skip trowel, sand or dash finishes. Coarse sands add greater depth and shadowing to stucco textures.

Medium: Used for medium skip troweled textures, lighter sand finishes and semi-smooth southwestern textures.

Fine: Used for semi-smooth or smooth finishes. (Cracks are often a problem with smooth finishes. These characteristics must always be discussed with the consumer before proceeding.)

Coverage:
Coverage will vary due to sand blend and desired texture. Use the following coverage estimates based on our medium blend as a general guideline:
¨Sand Float - 12 to 15 sq yards, 10.6 - 13.3 sq meters
¨Skip trowel - 10 to 12 sq yards, 8.9 - 10.6 sq meters
¨Machine Dash - 6 to 8 sq yards, 5.3 - 7.12 sq meters

Mixing:
Paint Base Exterior Stucco Finish is mixed with clean water in a mechanical mixer for ten to twelve-minutes. Two to three gallons of water are added until the mix is at a working consistency. Amount of water may vary do to weather conditions and desired texture. The contractor shall be consistent from batch to batch with the quantities of water.

Application:
Paint Base Stucco shall be applied by hand or machine application to a finished thickness of 1/16 to 1/8 inch.

1.Hand Application over portland cement base- Prior to application of exterior stucco, the base coat shall be sprayed with clean water to control and equalize water absorption

2.Machine Application over portland cement base - Base coat shall be dry. (It is not necessary to spray the base coat before application of exterior stucco by machine, as the compound itself has ample moisture when mixed for this purpose.) Spray the first coat in a thin consistency over the dry surface and cover base coat completely.

After first coat has dried, which may take two or more hours depending on climatic conditions, spray second coat in a thicker consistency and bring to the desired texture. Second coat may be sprayed the following day.
